Installation Instructions for 6 KW and 11.5 KW Little Giant Electric Circulation Water Heater and Pump
Gravity Circulation
Gravity Circulation is only recommended for the 3 KW Little Giant Heater. Higher KW heaters recover hot water too fast for Gravity Circulation. In addition, the water is delivered into the Baptistry at a high temperature so that manual stirring is normally required to mix the water. Also, the heater's thermostat cycles the heating element on and off. This shortens the thermostat's life; and due to the off time lengthens the heating time. Lime, magnesium and other minerals are deposited more readily with Gravity Circulation. However, an advantage of this system is that the cost of the pump and its operational cost is eliminated.
Pump Circulation
Circulation of water through the heater by pump is the best type Baptistry Heating System. The Baptistry water is heated uniformly without manual stirring. Minerals are not deposited as quickly because of the lower water temperature.
Installation
Assemble and make up tightly the complete heater and parts as shown (except slip joint nuts). Locate the most accessible place around the Baptistry for installation. Drill a 2-1/8" diameter hole 4-1/2" up from the Baptistry floor. Smooth hole and install chrome faced inlet flush port, by loosening at slip joint nut. Apply clear RTV sealant under chrome flange. Remove any outside insulation so port rubber gasket fits against outside of fiberglass wall. Measure center to center distance exactly between inlet and outlet fittings. Locate and drill a 2-1/8" hole for top port using method stated above.
Assemble complete heating system onto installed ports. Important - Block under heater or pump to support weight - this prevents leakage of Baptistry wall fittings.
Heaters are shipped with special Installation Instructions regarding wiring, etc.
Caution:
Be certain heater is turned off before draining Baptistry. Always fill Baptistry before turning heater on. Dry operation will burn out heating element, and cause failure of the pump.
